Rabbi Louis J. Sachs
Rabbi Louis J. Sachs serves as the Rabbi of Beth Torah Congregation in Toronto, Canada. He is known for his engaging sermons on Shabbat and Holidays, and his active role in teaching and leading lifecycle events. Beyond the synagogue Rabbi Sachs serves as President of the Ontario Rabbinical Assembly and on the Board of the Christian Jewish Christian Jewish Dialogue of Toronto, additionally, he teaches and speaks throughout the city in a variety of settings.
Rabbi Sachs' journey in Jewish leadership began in Los Angeles, where he was actively involved in Jewish youth groups and summer camps. He pursued a Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies from UC Davis in 2010, taking on leadership roles in various Jewish organizations, including serving as president of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. After graduating from college, Rabbi Sachs spent a year studying in Jerusalem at the Pardes Center for Jewish Studies, returning to Los Angeles to begin at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies. Throughout Rabbinical School, Rabbi Sachs worked with teens and young families at a variety of Synagogues around Los Angeles. He served for two years as the Rabbinic Intern at Temple Aliyah, and oversaw the ropes course and outdoor programs at Camp Ramah in California. Additionally, during his time at Ziegler, Rabbi Sachs volunteered for Jewish Big Brothers and was a AIPAC Rabbinical Student Fellow. Rabbi Sachs concentrated in Jewish Philosophy and his capstone project explored the relationship between Jewish Law and Ethics. Rabbi Sachs first came to Canada in 2017 to serve as the Assistant, and later Associate Rabbi of Beth Tikvah Synagogue. There, he was instrumental in launching new programs and building strong community relationships. Though Rabbi Sachs often misses the warm weather of his hometown, he loves living in Toronto. Together with his wife Lauren, their children Lillie and Ari, and their dog Spinoza, they appreciate the city's multicultural diversity and vibrant Jewish community. |
